The road goes ever on and on ...

I am horribly late to this part of the challenge, and I'm still reading The Hobbit, so I'm horribly behind as well. However. Questions for this part of the readalong can be found here:

http://theliteraryomnivore.wordpress.com/2010/02/15/challenge-the-lord-of-the-rings-readalong-part-2/

1. If you’ve been with us since the beginning, how do you feel about the narrator compared to the narrator in The Hobbit?
It's a more grown-up tale, so the narrative is more grown-up as well. I would imagine some people might have trouble with the slightly formal tone, but I love it.

2. How’s your pace going? Is it smooth sailing or have you found passages that are difficult to get through?
Um ... See above. Still on The Hobbit.

3. If you’ve read this series before, is The Fellowship of the Ring, for the most part, as you remembered? If not, is it what you expected or something else?
I'm sure it will be _ I started re-reading LOTR in 2007, and finished it ... last year? so it's reasonably fresh in my mind. There's always new discoveries to be made, though.

4. Are you using any of the extra features- maps and indexes, for instance- in your book?
I never look at the maps, I have no sense of direction at all, but I'll probably reference the appendices. :)

Generation A by Douglas Coupland

Where has Mr Coupland been all my life with his wit and sarcasm and observational humour?
Generation A is the first book I have read by Mr Coupland and I now plan to stalk his back catagalogue (er ... never mind).
Anyway. Generation A is set in the very near future, and the bees have disappeared. At least - that's what everybody thinks until five different people in apparently random parts of the world - are stung.
Then things get a little strange.
Um. Okay. I read this book a few weeks ago and the details are a little hazy, but it's awesome. And funny. And witty. And a Satirical Tome on Our Times. And one of the five is from New Zealand.
You all should read it.
my next review will be less of a fail.

It's February. Where is your Fellowship?

My goodness I'm late starting on this one! I haven't even finished The Hobbit!
I have two weeks off in March and plan much, much reading!
Our lovely host for the February readalong of Fellowship of the Ring is Clare at The Literary Omnivore.
The post that is relevant to your interests is here:

http://theliteraryomnivore.wordpress.com/2010/02/01/challenge-the-lord-of-the-rings-readalong-part-1/#more-568

And Clare invites us to answer these questions:

1.When did you first hear of The Lord of the Rings?
Hmmm ... when I was about 12 or 13 I think?

2.Have you read The Fellowship of the Ring before?
Yes. Many, many times. I first devoured my older brother's copy when I was 14. I still remember sitting on the back doorstep and just ... inhaling it.

3.What’s your plan of attack, now that we’re dealing with more “mature” literature?
Read. Enjoy. Not stress out about the fact I still haven't finished The Hobbit. \O/

4.Have you ever seen the movies? If so, do you think they’ll influence your reading? If not, well, why haven’t you seen them?
Yes. I love the movies. No ... they don't influence my reading at all. I love the books and the movies as separate entities.

Come with us. We're going on a journey ... :)
