Booking Through Thursday

Have your book-tastes changed over the years? More fiction? Less? Books that are darker and more serious? Lighter and more frivolous? Challenging? Easy? How-to books over novels? Mysteries over Romance?
I’ve been mulling this, as I read other entries, and as I wait for my second wind to kick in after work.
I don’t think my book tastes have changed so much over the years, as evolved. As I get older, and my circumstances, and sometimes my interests, change; so do my reading habits. I have my old favourites, my go-tos, that I go back to time and again when I need something familiar and comforting.
What I really look for now, is a great story that can hold my attention. This has made me both more picky and more prolific in my reading as I look for The One _ that story that keeps you reading until 3am, or when you’re drifting off on the couch on a drowsy afternoon, but you just can’t bear to put your book down. Or when you’re at work, and all you want to do is go home, and pick your book up again.
As for fiction/dark/series/light/frivolous/challenging/easy/how-to/mysteries … yes, please.
I left out romance, because it’s never been a genre I’m interested in. It was quite a revelation to me when I discovered I could read historical novels without all the hysterical bodice-ripping.
Happy Thursday!

I agree. I enjoy historical novels without all the euphemisms for body parts thrown in too.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment on my blog. :) Take care.

It's been a long time since I've had that read-till-3-AM experience with a book, though there are many I've enjoyed. Interesting post.

I like that idea of book tastes evolving rather than changing. Isn't hard sometimes to find just the right book?

"It was quite a revelation to me when I discovered I could read historical novels without all the hysterical bodice-ripping." Hilarious! That brings to mind many such novels furtively passed around in middle school with the heroine in a half-faint with ripped bodice.

I must confess to a three month affair with Mills and Boons when I was 14. There began and ended my reading of romances! And I do appreciate, and share, your joy in finding historical novels without the bodice ripping lol

I so agree...there is nothing like the books that just grab you and don't let go! yes.

In the past, I'd pick up a book just because the author had a female name. Now I'm not so quick to do that.

I also like those books that kept me up all night. I can't do that anymore because my son will wake at 5 or 6, no matter how late I was up reading!

Thanks for all your comments. It's nice to have visitors, and I've been terribly rude in not replying to you all. :)
This is a blanket thank you because I'm at work and I shouldn't be here ... but I wanted to comment before I forgot, or it got too late. :)

Late this week but the topic prompted a reflective account

Just call me slow... I still haven't learned that when the clock strikes 4 a.m. it really is time to turn out the lights and sleep for an hour or two. :)

My favorites have evolved over the years as well. But I'm still partial to a good thriller that can keep me up all night. The latest one to do that is Death in Small Doses, an action thriller with enough twists and turns to keep you going to the last page. (I think it was about 5:30 that morning!)
