Booking Through Thursday

"I saw that National Library week is coming up in April, and that led to some questions. How often do you use your public library and how do you use it? Has the coffeehouse/bookstore replaced the library? Did you go to the library as a child? Do you have any particular memories of the library? Do you like sleek, modern, active libraries or the older, darker, quiet, cozy libraries?"
Oh ... I love the library. They let you take books, like, for free!!! I mean, you have to bring them back, but still ...
When I was a youngster, we had a poky cosy sort of library, with lots of books, but very little space. The children's library was upstairs, where I'd browse while my mother would be downstairs. On one of the landings, I'd stop at the window to see if I could fix her position so I could go straight to where she was.
Now, the public library here is a lot more spacious. It lends books for a month, but I would say we end up going every 2 to 3 weeks. It's kind of our Saturday morning thing, if we go out on a Saturday morning. We start at the library and go from there.
As long as the library has plenty of books, I really don't care about the design of it. Easy to get around would be the top of my list. And no, I don't think the coffee/bookstore has replaced the library. Partly because we don't have one here, and partly because I'd always use the library, no matter what.

Lovely post! I don't care the design of the libraries too, as long as I can find the books I want. ;)

How interesting of how your library have up/down stairs. Our are not...at lease not the one I go to. While I don't care much about the design of the library, I do however care about the comfortable "air" of the library to feel myself at home :)

Happy BTTs, I hope you have a good Thursday!

That's lovely that you go to the library every week, I think that I am going to try and go more often in the next few months! Happy BTT!

Yay for libraries! I volunteer at the library so I'm there every week. What is SOOOO sad about our area libraries are that the hours have been cut so drastically that it's more likely the place is closed when you want to go.

Poky sort of library..Just that thought made me smile. Children do love such libraries.

I don't think bookstores will ever replace libraries either. I think there's a need for both.

Lots of people mentioned that the content matters more than the design of a library, but I like traditional ones.

I don't think the coffeehouse / bookstore will ever replace the library. I find librarians so much more helpful then bookstore staff (especially large chainstores).

What a great post! Books for free is one of the best reasons to go to the library. =) That and the selection. Happy Thursday.

One month is very graceful. Here we get about 3 weeks.

I was such a magnet to libraries when I was young. I still remembered that sensation of getting my library card---that felt so privileged and special!

I love going there to read my own books these days!

I love the library too and even if I keep the book an extra week is only costs me 90 cents vs the price of a new book

Loved your post!! My branch is one level but the main branch is 2 with the children's library upstairs. I loved my library, absolutely love it!!

Great post! I love the photo too. I agree that coffeeshops will never replace libraries, until they start lending books too!

I think libraries are awesome. I'd be lost without mine. I don't think bookstores or coffeehouses will ever replace them.

lol.. your book shelf looks like mine... only better organized... and not listing... :-D

I have a problem with the "free" part of the library books. I'm terrible about getting them back on time, so I've come to think of the fine I will get as the "rental fee". lol...
